Comfort zones are by definition a place in your life where you feel comfortable. Content. Where you are happy with how far you’ve come and are content not to push the boundaries and take risks. You’ve become complacent in life and that’s okay. Sometimes that’s necessary to protect us from something or to shield us from past or present trauma. You get comfortable in your routines. In the way you always do things. Risks become too scary because it will take you out of the place you feel most comfortable dwelling in right now.
In life it is easy to go with the easiest route, the safest route, the one with the least amount of risks in it. That’s not a bad thing but if you don’t take risks in life how will you know if you are living life to the fullest in the way God intended you to. It’s the same in our relationship with God. It is easy to pray when it is convenient and to ask for help only when you need it. We get into patterns of ease in life and we stick to them. It’s easy just to pray before a meal or right before bed because it’s what we’ve been dong since we were children but have you tried to step out of routine a little and do a pray walk or journal or pray out loud? Try something that seems scary and unnerving at first but you might just find a new way to reconnect with your Saviour.
I’m am doing the race for exactly that reason. I am challenging myself to step out of my safe comfort zone to explore a new way to talk to and hear from Jesus. I am trying to figure out how to live my life to the fullest extent I can and to honour God through it. I want to see how far outside of my comfort zone I can go. I want to see the vastness of God’s beautiful creation and praise him for it. I want to put what God has instore for me ahead of my own wants and dream because everything He has instore for me is 100% better than what I could ever imagine. He put so much thought and effort into each little living thing in this earth and I can ‘t wait to see it all for myself. As terrifying as it is to leave my comfort zone and my home for a year I am not scared, I am honoured He would trust me with something so important to Him as spreading his word and bringing new people to truly know him.
I hope you challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone today even if it is only to talk to someone new at church, or ask someone to go to coffee with you. You never know how God is working in your life or how you could impact someone else’s just by doing something you normally wouldn’t do everyday!
